RGBW, RGB and adjustable white
RGB tape mixes red, green and blue to make colours, and its “white” is a mix of all three, which often looks a little blue or pink. RGBW adds a dedicated white LED, so white looks like white. Adjustable-white tape (sometimes called tunable white) lets you move between warm and cool white. Those are three different things: RGBW alone doesn’t promise adjustable white, a CRI figure or LEDs that can each show a different colour.
What the Zone smart tape offers
| Zone light | Length | Power supply | Output | CRI | Controls and mounting |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 13 ft smart RGBW tape lightZ-TPL-SM13 | 13 ft | Plug-in power supply | 1,000 lm | Not published | RGB plus selectable white from 2700K to 6500K · App control · In-line mode button · Adhesive back · LED life: 30,000 hours |
These details come from each model’s linked product page. “Not published” means the information is missing. It does not mean the feature is absent or that a use is allowed.
The Z-TPL-SM13 lists app control, an in-line mode button and an adhesive back. Cutting permission is not published. Zone hasn’t published which smart-home platform, voice assistant or network it uses. If you need it to work with something you already own, check that first.
Plan the run and the power
Measure the route you want to light and how far it is to an outlet. Note any corners, gaps between surfaces and where the controller box can sit out of sight but within reach. The tape length tells you how much tape you get, not how long the power lead is or whether you can add more.
Can it be cut or used outdoors?
Zone hasn’t published cutting permission, cut marks, bend limits or reconnection parts for this model. Obtain the exact instructions before altering the tape or planning around a cut piece. There’s no outdoor or wet-location rating published, so keep it indoors and away from water.
Is it bright enough for task lighting?
Zone publishes an output of 1,000 lm for this tape. CRI and light distribution are not published, so this site cannot determine whether it suits a particular counter or bench. Compare it with the under-cabinet guide for lights built for that job. For a decorative run, start with the controls, the route and how you’ll mount it.
How the controller works
The controller sits between the power supply and the tape. It turns the red, green, blue and white channels up and down to make each colour or shade of white. The product lists app control and an in-line mode button, but the feature sheet does not state which settings are available at the button. Having an app doesn’t tell you the tape’s voltage, brightness or maximum length; those are separate specs.
Standard RGBW tape changes the whole strip to one colour at a time. Tape where each LED can show a different colour, for chasing or rainbow effects, is a different product called addressable or “pixel” tape. If you want moving effects, look for that feature by name instead of assuming “smart” includes it.
Plan what you’ll see from the room
You can mount tape where you see the strip itself, or hide it so the light bounces off a wall, ceiling or the underside of a shelf. Hidden tape gives a soft glow. Visible tape on a glossy surface can show each LED as a bright dot, while a matte surface spreads the light out. Try it in place before you peel the backing.
For shelves, cabinets or a cove, measure each section and decide where the power supply and controller will go. Plan corners and gaps up front. Cutting and reconnection permission are not published, so obtain the exact instructions before altering the tape.

02 questions
How do I get tape around a corner?
Zone has not published cutting permission, bend limits, reconnection parts or corner-connector compatibility for this model. Plan the route and obtain the exact instructions before altering or folding the tape.
Can RGBW tape light a kitchen counter?
Zone publishes 1,000 lm for this tape, but CRI and light distribution are not published. Those missing details mean this site cannot determine whether it suits a particular counter. Compare a dedicated under-cabinet light for the main counter light.
Common questions
04 questions
Is RGBW better than RGB for white light?
Yes. RGBW has a dedicated white LED, so its white looks cleaner than RGB’s mixed white. How warm, how bright and how true that white is still depends on the specs, and RGBW doesn’t automatically mean enough light for a worktop.
Does smart tape need Wi-Fi?
Not always. Some smart tape uses Wi-Fi, some uses Bluetooth and some uses another link. Zone’s tape lists app control, but the network type isn’t published, so check before you plan around your home network.
Can I use the tape without a phone?
The Zone tape lists an in-line mode button, but the feature sheet does not state which settings are available at the button or whether initial setup needs a phone. Check the instructions if you need a particular function without your phone.
Can I add a second reel to make it longer?
Only if the instructions say you can. The power supply is sized for the tape it comes with, and an extra reel may overload it. A matching plug or the same RGBW label doesn’t mean two reels can share one power supply and controller.
